Autumn Leaves

Along the trail to White Pine Lake
Along the trail to White Pine Lake, Logan Canyon, UT

With its more moderate temperatures and colorful foliage, Nature never fails to inspire. While the leaves turn colors and float to the ground outside, I've been busy in the studio making a few leaves of my own!

In August I attended a three day conference at Pilchuck Glass School that was dedicated to all things related to glass casting. The weekend was packed full with amazing speakers covering everything from traditional mold-making, casting, and pate de verre, to cutting edge ideas using computer generated graphics, 3D technology, glass making recipes, and complex mold-making. I left with a headful of ideas and a renewed excitement for creating cast glass objects.

Last year I made a few cast glass leaves, but before making the glass castings, I made silicone positives from real leaves. These positives can be used multiple times to create plaster molds, which glass is then fired in to. Once back into the studio from Pilchuck, I started on a new "crop" of leaves using my silicone positives. Fine silver leaf
Glass will always be my first love, but leaves have also found their way into some of my fine silver jewelry. Here's a pendant that was cast from a coleus leaf from my garden.

Fall leaves and other items will be available at upcoming shows and through the end of the year. Below are events I have scheduled to date, I hope you'll be able to drop by and say hello at one of them!

Happy Autumn! Dana
